Welcome to a brand new blog for a brand new year! Dreamed up during the last week of 2009, 52 Words a Year is a place to exercise my creative muscles. A lover of words, reading, photographing, designing and drawing, I have decided to challenge myself weekly with a "word" assignment using all of the aforementioned activities. As a graphic designer at a corporate company by day, I sometimes feel like I have more creative energy I want to use and there is more than one outlet I would like to use it in. Call it artistic ADD.
So, I'm a gal living in Brooklyn who has always loved taking pictures and writing. Graphic design entered my life when I was a sophomore in college and since the moment I could pick up a crayon, I have loved drawing. Going to art school and taking painting and illustration classes every semester was a fantastic way to keep up my drawing addiction. Unfortunately, since college I haven't done nearly the amount of it I would like to. It makes me a bit sad to know it was something I used to do all of the time and now it's something I am doing once a year. However, with a trip to AI Friedman at the beginning of December to buy brand new Dr. Ph. Martin's liquid watercolors, my painting life has gotten back on track – at least a weekly track. If nothing else, this new creative project is my way of REALLY bringing painting/drawing back into my life.
I encourage you to read and view my blog as much as you want. And if for some reason a word I am using one week inspires you and you want to give yourself a creative workout, try it out and let me know via email. I'll post a link to your blog from mine. Let's get in creative shape together.
Happy writing, photographing, drawing and designing!
